A bunch of weak-willed Pompeiians, evil Roman snoots and innocent lovers are in for it.

Vesuvius, their executioner, sits above the town, contemplating the right moment to lava-drown the entire joint after some introductory volleys of giant earthquakes and meteor-like fireballs. It waits and watches, gearing up to dispense retribution for their collective sin, hubris and lack of respect for rich-girl/poor-boy romances. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that it’s necessarily a virtue-minded volcano; it showers its liquid death-rock on the just and the unjust; it ain’t here to make friends. And in Pompeii, a giant, stinky bacon-cheeseburger of grand-scale 3D garbage-tainment, when the camera lingers on Vesuvius’ rumbling prelude, you’ll wish hacky auteur Paul W.S. Anderson would have just gone ahead and fully anthropomorphized it, given it a working mouth and allowed it some dialogue: “WHAT’S UP? VESUVIUS HERE. I’M FIXIN’ TO KILL ALL OF YOU. IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT. FOR ME, AT LEAST.”

Milo (Game of Thrones star Kit Harington), a Celt slave, is sent to Pompeii to be part of a fight-to-the-death Olympics, where he’ll be pitted against champion brawler Atticus (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) when not busy being ogled by effeminate fight organizer Graecus (Joe Pingue, serving pursed lips, curly forelock and limp wrist like an old-school exploitation pro) or getting groped for cash by rich Pompeii ladies. But along the way Milo helps Cassia (Emily Browning), the daughter of Pompeii’s richest family, put down her injured horse. Blank-stare love blooms. “WHATEVER,” yawns Vesuvius, belching a little practice smoke, “STILL GONNA FILL YOUR LUNGS WITH FIVE BILLION DEGREE VOLCANO PUDDING.”

Cassia’s father (Jared Harris) needs a cash infusion from Rome so he allows extreme villain Corvus (Keifer Sutherland, wearing Liberace capes and acting like Scar from The Lion King) to bully the family into giving him Cassia as a lawfully wedded sex toy, but not before Cassia gets on a big sturdy metaphor-stallion with Milo – who is not only a valiant warrior but an animal tamer so talented that all he has to do is stare lovingly into the creature’s eyes and it offers its most docile self up to him -- and rides off into the fields for some chaste kissing. Anything more and Mr. V would seriously blow his top. “GET IT NOW. I’M ALREADY BORED WITH KISSYFACE,” zings You Know Who.

When Corvus is ready to claim his prize and announces, “I think the wedding should be in Rome!” that’s when our hero finally bellows, “I THINK NOT,” and eruptions all over everybody. There’s some chasing and fighting and revenge, declarations of freedom, truth, beauty and love, a variety of entertaining neckstabs and, finally, the doom you’ve paid a budget-matinee-ticket amount of money to witness. And it doesn't make you wait forever for it, which is considerate. You will have an excellent time cheering on the death every-friggin-body and their subsequent contributions to the science of archeology.

He needs it from morning to night and cannot be in the presence of a woman without making love to her, whether she is asleep, in the process of washing the dishes, or anything else. The story begins with his girlfriends Sabine (Helene Shirley) leaving him, telling him as she parts that she wants to live and his demands are literally killing her. The next girlfriends suffers the same fate, as does the secretary he hires and a woman who is designing sets for the movie adaptation of his latest book. Realizing that no living woman can satisfy him, he sets up a laboratory in the basement and builds a true to life, remote controlled robot woman- his "female object" (Marilyn Jess). At first life is good, as the stunning, busty blonde robot can not speak- and wouldn't complain if she could- and satisfies his every sexual whim. He ironically observes, "She is more feminine than any woman I have ever known".

LA FEMME-OBJET remains a peculiar beast in the history of Continental carnality. Originating from an intelligent and literate script that proves a particularly cruel spin on the Pygmalion myth with a dash of Frankenstein, the film offers an incisive critique on the pornographic representation of men (as virile and irresistible) and women (as available and accommodating) by expanding upon these stereotypes, taking them to grotesque extremes.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146082/
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3888886775576623932.post-55970096041142834632014-05-30T22:50:00.000-07:002014-06-21T23:17:03.143-07:00Fantom kiler 4 (2008)

The director of MARK OF THE WHIP returns with the 4th installment of his highly offensive FANTOM KILER series. In fact it's the first time I have ever watched 80's porn, but I was pleasantly surprised with this full length feature. The movie follows Rex's pursuit of rock 'n roll stardom, or the lack there of. When the film begins Rex is in a rundown apartment attempting to become a better guitar player. He is definitely lacking skills in that department. After his roomates show up, and get 'busy' on the apartment floor Rex decides to take himself a nap. What follows is a trippy sexual adventure into the underground rock 'n roll scene. When Rex takes a stroll through the streets of L.A. to admire a guitar he longs for he is confronted by a sexy female band singer who ends up making his wildest dream come true.

Rock 'N Roll Heaven is full of group oriented sex, that is accented by music performed by the 'Evil Angel Band'. It follows Rex's sexual exploits as a rock star. In the movie Rex ends up hooking up with multiple girls on various occasions. He also entertains his sexual desires as he plays with the Evil Angel Band at their own private club. The movie does include individual sex scenes, but for the most part it is group oriented. There were several repeats of the band's group orgy which was shown in whole towards the end of the feature. The finale of this feature presentation is wrapped up quite nicely with a cool little plot twist. To be honest though I could tell what was going to happen in the end, but it was cool nonetheless.

I was actually quite impressed with this movie/feature. The 80's were definitely my favorite years, and the nostalgiac trip this tale offered payed homage to the lifestyles of that time period. I really liked Rex (Woop) in this movie. He brought the story to life. I noticed that the guitar that his character longed for in the movie was a B.C. Rich similar to one my father owned which was cool. Aside from the rock 'n roll theme, the sex was fairly good. The orgy parts were a little drawn out at times though. I think my favorite part of this movie was definitely the rock 'n roll music. I'm not sure if Woop (Rex), or the female lead singer/performer were actually singing/playing in the movie, but they certainly appeared to be. In the end I was glad I got the chance to review this DVD.

Blowing In Style

Blowing In Style is a 1989 Evil Angel feature that follows the sexual exploits of four girlfriends. The movie starts off as one of the girls offers her 'oral' services to a male hairstylist as pay. From that point on the scenes skip between three of the girlfriends, and the girlfriend who remains at the hair salon. Most of the sex scenes involved flashback stories that are shared among the three girlfriends. Lori, the only girl in the group who hasn't given a blowjob is strongly persuaded by her friends to do so. In the end Lori discovers the pleasure of giving blowjobs, and shares her new found talent with her own husband/boyfriend.

This feature is full of various types of sex. Some of the sex is hardcore, and often times includes deepthroating. Lesbian, bi-sexual, and straight sex scenes populate this movie's entire length. There are also some fairly impressive facials given. Peter North's finishes were definitely some of the best. For the most part Peter North was the only male performer I really recognized, but I'm sure some of my readers here may recognize the names I've included in this review.

Once again I was quite impressed with the nostalgiac look at 80's porn. I wouldn't say that 'Blowing In Style' was better than 'Rock N Roll Heaven', but it still had it's own good points. I really liked the hardcore sex that went on in it. The fact that there were several different sex scenes was definitely cool. I do believe that there was a wider variety of sex included in this one feature than in most of the DVDs I have reviewed thus far. It was definitely neat to see how porn in the 80's differed from the porn of today.

EXTRAS:

- Cast List
- Photo Gallery
- Filmographies
- Biography
- Trailers
- Websites
- Cumshot Recap

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Up until this point I had never watched classic porn, or even porn from the 80's. It was a new experience for me. I definitely noticed how little porn has changed over the years. For the most part porn has remained the same. The only noticable changes have been to the clothing, and music styles of the time period. I think 'Rock N Roll Heaven' was definitely my favorite out of the two DVDs in this set. It was more of a manly adult movie. Blowing In Style seemed to be geared more to the ladies. Both films definitely had something to offer when it came to enjoyable sex scenes, but for the most part they contained only a nostalgiac quality about them. While I did enjoy the look back at porn of the 80's through these two John Stagliano classics, I feel that they are only worth a rent. If you loved the originals, and they hold some sort of memory for you then they're probably worth a purchase though. Since I never got to see the original when it was released, this set of movies just offered me a peek into classic porn of the 80's.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3888886775576623932.post-40809308605535926212014-05-30T22:40:00.000-07:002014-06-21T23:16:39.351-07:00Die Marquise von Sade (1976)

A lonely aristocrat Miss Gray has a twin sister who's in an asylum. A female reporter arrives at the mansion.

Lina Romay is naked throughout the film and seemingly perfectly happy to not only reveal all but to get down and very dirty in a surprisingly explicit Franco outing. Nudity is hardly unknown in the 'dirty old man's' films but were this not so different in feel to accepted hardcore, that is the label one might find appropriate. Elegantly shot in widescreen this is a colourful, erotic tale with surprising moments hinting at vampirism and despite the appalling dubbed dialogue very watch able and amazingly possibly one of Romay's best.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074871/
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3888886775576623932.post-25789867721338280292014-05-30T22:38:00.000-07:002014-06-21T23:16:39.348-07:00A Climax Of Blue Power (1975)

In his off hours, a creepy security guard masquerades as a police officer, hassles prostitutes who think he's a real cop and lets them go in return for free sex. One day he happens to witness a woman murder her husband, and he decides that she should be punished for her crime, but in his own way.

"A Climax of Blue Power" is hostile and gritty, and without a trace of political correctness. It also plays like a real movie, with a plot, characters and believable acting. There's even a car chase. Carns is effective in his role, his physical attractiveness (he sort of looks like a young Kurt Russell) never overshadowing his creepiness. Carnon, who's made numerous softcore movies ("Drop-Out Wife," "Booby Trap"), is another standout. (Incidentally, Carnon's scenes in this movie all appear to be softcore; an obvious stand-in was used for the hardcore close-ups). Also appearing are Frost's frequent producing partner Wes Bishop, as a detective, and Uschi Digard in a non-sexual and, surprisingly, fully-clothed cameo.

Director Frost made some of the most stylish roughies of the 1960s ("The Pick-Up," "The Defilers," "Hot Spur"). "A Climax of Blue Power" essentially uses Frost's roughie template and repackages it in a hard-X format. Though the movie has a few shaky production and story issues at its beginning (like why does a hooker keep flagging down johns in front of a police car and an unconvincing day-for-night scene), this is a must for fans of Frost's work, as well as aficionados of rough sex.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0135204/
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3888886775576623932.post-11675769679229170422014-05-30T22:37:00.000-07:002014-06-21T23:16:39.339-07:00Jess Franco's Passion (2005)

"Jess Franco's Passion" is another deeply personal film from Jess Franco, and is a partial re-make of his 1982 film "Historia Sexual D'O (The Sexual Story of O), but "Passion" does not have the brutal SM present in the "O" film, though it does feature one ugly violent death. Like many of Jess' recent films, it is short of dialog, long on explicit lesbian love scenes, and contains much of the same soundtrack music featured in his other recent films, though this film has a couple of different tracks here and there. The music becomes almost vital since there is so little dialog, and the piano theme near the end of the film, played during a sex scene where Franco's camera is unbelievably close to his actresses' rear ends, is particularly spellbinding.

There are only four actresses in the cast, Fata Morgana King and Carmen Montes play the happy lesbians who are nude throughout the film's 99 minute running time. As I wrote in my review of Jess' companion film "Jess Franco's Perversion", these two women are practically sexual acrobats and their total exhibitionism rivals Lina Romay. Lina and Rachel Shepard play the unhappy lesbians, with Shepard spying on the happy women in the apartment across from theirs. Lina phones in her role in its entirety, and she has only three scenes, but as usual she makes the most of her time and she provides the only real acting in the film. She is very convincing in her brief appearances. Shepard is considerably better here than in other Franco films; however, all she has to do is be naked and look sad all the time. I won't give away the ending, which is not that shocking but certainly is dramatic and not to be expected in what is basically a lesbian porn film.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458686/
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3888886775576623932.post-44026169880429344782014-05-30T22:35:00.000-07:002014-06-21T23:16:39.354-07:00As Taras do Mini-Vampiro (1987)

A midget vampire terrorizes a small town, attacking dating couples in their randy moments. This one stars Chumbinho (aka Fuk Fuk the Brazilian Midget). I love this guy. He causes a guy to be orally dis-membered by a woman giving him a blowjob and sticks strawas in people to drink their blood. He just looks funny really, and is a treat to see act like an ass. There's also a lovingly raunchy scene of a fat bearded guy masturbating to pictures of horses at horse shows! Hahaha! Gold I tell you! This mini-vampire is a bit odd. He walks around during the day with sunglasses and sleeps hanging upside down in public during the daytime. He spies on people having sex and manages to dine at the Y. The film opens with the tribe holding physical contests to select a new queen. Since there are no men in the tribe, they hire men from another nation once a year. After the queen is crowned, the Amazons go to meet a group of Greek soldiers for their annual mating. The king of the Greeks pretends to be a captain and has sex with the queen. Much to the queen's dismay, she quite enjoys having sex with a man. The king recommends to the queen a certain way back home, not knowing there is another tribe of male warriors waiting in ambush. On the way back to their homes, the Amazons are attacked, and they drive off the men. Once home, they decide to pillage the villages of the tribe that ambushed them. The queen bears a male child, who she thinks is left out to die, as male children are not wanted by the Amazons. Being the year of the 50th anniversary of the beloved super spy, the 23rd Bond installment had a lot to live up to. While Casino Royale was a worthy and thrilling reboot to the franchise, Quantum of Solace fell flat with critics and fans. To make matters more interesting, MGM has had financial woes over the last number of years and needed a hit to reinvigorate the studio. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Skyfall.

Not only does the movie qualify as one of the most action-packed and entertaining movies of the year, it ranks on my list as one of the best Bond flicks to date. As has come to be expected, Craig is terrific as the British spy, portraying the character with charm and intensity. The action is top notch and the story is superbly written. Among my favorite moments were the blistering opening sequences, the introduction of the film's villain, and the intense final act, which finds Bond cornered yet unafraid. The real treat, however, is Bardem's role as the sinister Silva. Rivaling any villain in recent memory, save Heath Ledger's Joker, Bardem is intimidating, powerful, and irresistible to watch. You'll find yourself glued to the screen whenever he appears, and hoping he'll show up again soon when he's gone.

Another huge nod has to go to Mendes, whose vision of Bond is spectacular. The movie is tightly scripted and the director does a very fine job of bringing out great performances from his cast. The cinematography is some of the best I've seen in a film for a long time; the production crew did a remarkable job utilizing light, colors, and atmosphere to really draw the audience in. Another treat is the glimpse the audiences gets into Bond's past, which plays a crucial role in the film.

The transfer to Blu-ray is beautiful; the colors are pin-sharp and the picture is clear, crisp, and detailed. In a film that contains such vibrant colors and contrasts, this was immensely important for home release. All of the great cinematographic moments you saw in the theater look just as great here. The audio is equally perfect. The disc's DTS-HD MA 5.1 track contain all the intensity and clarity contained in the theatrical release so you can enjoy the crashes, explosions, gun shots, and dialogue in high definition.

By way of special features, there's just under an hour of behind-the-scenes featurettes that are an interesting watch, as well as the original action-heavy trailer for the movie, "Skyfall Premiere" feature, and two different audio commentaries; a detailed and information-rich feature from Mendes and a not-so-interesting one from producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson and production designer Dennis Gassner. The insight from Mendes is fascinating and any fan of the film will be sure to enjoy it. The commentary from the producers felt more like a promotion of the film and could have been left off the disc in my opinion.

Whether your a die-hard Bond fan or a casual observer, Skyfall has something for everyone. There are multiple references to past Bond adventures, yet enough new and innovative ideas to please newcomers to the franchise. I highly recommend this film. This BD set doesn't boast hours and hours of extra footage but it has enough to please fans that are curious about the making of the film. Overall a terrific movie, beautiful disc transfer, and engaging Blu-ray set.

Now that Predator 3D has been released, I thought a brief update to this review might be useful.

I was surprised at the quality of the 3D conversion, given that it used the automated JVC Fox workstation that was used for Jumper 3D and I, Robot 3D. The process costs about a third of what a typical catalog 3D conversion costs and can be done with about 3 people in 3 months. In contrast, Titanic took hundreds of people over a year to convert.

The slow rate of adoption of 3D has been attributed, in part, to the lack of available content. Fox Home Entertainment with JVC developed a business model using automated equipment that allowed the 3D conversion of catalog movies profitably.
I was doubtful that they would be successful in this after watching 3D clips of I, Robot shortly after it was released. I changed my mind after purchasing and watching Predator 3D.

The only caveat is that the extras are provided via a Disk two DVD. (Disk one is the 3D/2D disk which has no extras). It would have been better to include the Ultimate Hunter Edition Blu-ray as Disk two as they did for the European release, since it has several more extras, some of them in High Definition.

So, you have recently upgraded your home theater for blu-ray and want to replace your old Predator DVD. Should you buy the 2008 release or the 2010 (UHE) release? Perhaps I can help you decide.
When the 2008 edition was released, blu-ray disks were purchased primarily by film purists who believed nothing in the original film should be altered. Today, blu-ray is mainstream and the film purists represent only 4% of the market . Fox, in 2010 was intent on providing a release, Ultimate Hunter Edition, that catered to the tastes of the majority of consumers. The film purist minority is unhappy with that release as well.
I saw the movie in the theater when it was released in 1987. The graininess of the image was disturbing. After some research, I found that the film was shot with a film stock that, in low light conditions created an excessively grainy image and that it was not the filmmaker's intent to do that for artistic reasons.
I own both the 2008 and the UHE blu-rays and have compared them exhaustively. In my opinion, The UHE is the superior disk in terms of color accuracy and detail.
The last word from Fox on the Predator UHE blu-ray comes from Vincent Marcais, Sr. V.P. for International Sales in a taped interview. "The film stock (source for the transfer) was poor. The criticism is unfair. The filmmaker's were consulted, which we always do while they are alive. The UHE is how the filmmaker's wanted it to look"
Lets put aside the fact that the UHE has 5 hours of supplemental information and the 2008 version has none; and the fact that the UHE uses a modern video codec (AVC MPEG 4 vs VC-1 for 2008) and has a higher bit rate, resulting in more potential detail.
Your choice if you consider yourself a film purist is the 2008 release. If you want to enjoy the movie as the director and cinematographer intended, your choice is the Ultimate Hunter Edition. If you are still conflicted, buy both.
In conclusion. I own both, but I only watch the Ultimate Hunter Editon.

I would caution you about visiting other forums to help you make a purchasing decision. The people on those forums represent only 4% of those that purchase blu-ray disks today and most are biased in favor of the film purists view.

Edit. 5/19/2012. I thought it might be interesting to some of you to read some technical details about the difficulty with the source used for the BD and the issue of director's intent:

Perhaps this will put to rest any uncertainty about the director's intent regarding grain/grittiness.

"As I think much has been said online seemingly `authoritatively' about the Director's intent and the use of the film "stock" to make Predator intentionally look gritty or grainy. Well, that's pretty much inaccurate speculation according to someone I recently spoke with intimately involved in the production.
The DP chose the Eastman Kodak stocks he did for the simple fact of capturing "usable" images on film under relatively low lighting conditions in the jungle...'grit' or `intentional' graininess was never intended in any artistic sense for `atmosphere'. If anything, it was an undesirable side effect of the acquisition because it caused "murkiness" esp. in the greys and blacks of dark jungle sequences and didn't allow the filmmakers the opportunity to cut the different stocks together in the same scene, which would have been nice to have had that flexibility. To give you an idea of the challenge, they were apparently restricted to shooting at a max. of only T2 in anything but high noon and the middle of the day.

Don McAlpine shot the film with 35mm Kodak 5247 and 5294, depending on the lighting conditions available, with or without the aid of artificial light illumination. The '94 (400T) was used for really low lit conditions (like those night sequences in the ravine at the end which apparently were only getting 7 or 8 footcandles down there, with only 4 or 5 footcandles after the smoke starting flowing during the action) and the '47 (125T) stock was used for the set-ups involving wide clearances which had more natural light and as well, could be more easily illuminated with artificial light, when justified. You see, once you add artificial light in the deep jungle, all it accomplishes is lighting the foreground to such an excessive degree that it looks obvious and fake to audiences. Lighting considerations were where the real photographic `artistry", if you will, of the captured imagery took place, not in any consideration of grain being used for a `gritty' look."

Vincent Marcais Senior V.P. International Marketing, was asked about the policy when remastering catalog titles and specifically about Predator. The Fox executive acknowledges that they got a lot of criticism, "but I don't think it was deserved," he countered, because the movie was shot on a film stock that wasn't good enough, and the Blu-ray version "represents what the filmmaker wanted it to look like." He said that Fox discusses the issue of "removing grain or not" with the filmmakers, "as long as they are alive".

Corporate Execs at this level are very careful about the statements they make for publication. There will be no remaster or new transfer of Predator in the foreseeable future based on his comment.

A lot of kung fu film fans have no doubt eagerly been awaiting Vivendi's line of Dragon Dynasty Blu's. Unfortunately, if The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is any indication of what's in store down the line, Vivendi has drastically underestimated the tolerance level of high definition aficionados. Somewhat unbelievably, this is a 1080i transfer, which in and of itself isn't horrible, except that the source elements of this ShawScope (OAR 2.39:1) film vary widely in consistency, and combing artifacts do rear their ugly heads from time to time. Colors (especially reds) bloom repeatedly, leaving large swaths of the screen seeming to literally bleed outside the lines of their colored objects. Even worse, the final 15 minutes or so of the film undergo a rather substantial quality change, with inconsistent contrast and an overall yellow sheen. The entire film in fact looks rather soft, and while some may be excited enough with an anamorphically enhanced Blu that at least isn't downright horrible, my hunch is the more shall we say persnickety videophiles are going to be really, really disappointed with this effort, especially for a film which is so widely beloved. Is it better than a standard def DVD? Probably--a little. Though the fact that I'm even asking that question should be warning enough that there's not enough of a difference here to even really mention.

Though this Blu does come with a dubbed English track, stick with the original Chinese, even if it (like the English) is delivered via a standard Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. This certainly would have been a fun film for a 5.1 retrofit, especially in the foley-centric baton sequences, but what's here is reasonably robust, without that thrilling rumble on the low end that a lossless track provides. Several actors were obviously post-dubbed, even in the original language track, and so there is the odd disparity of seeing lips not quite synched to the soundtrack, but dialogue is clear and at times at least passably directional. Sound effects and underscore are well mixed into the proceedings, and there were no egregious dropouts or annoying hiss. The English dub is simply laughable, with lame voice "actors" spewing ridiculous dialogue. Of course, if you're in the mood for a good laugh, you may want to opt for that track on a repeat viewing.

When a New York reporter plucks crocodile hunter Dundee from the Australian Outback for a visit to the Big Apple, it's a clash of cultures and a recipe for good-natured comedy as naïve Dundee negotiates the concrete jungle. Dundee proves that his instincts are quite useful in the city and adeptly handles everything from wily muggers to high-society snoots without breaking a sweat.

However as Marji grows up, she witnesses first hand how the new Iran, now ruled by Islamic fundamentalists, has become a repressive tyranny on its own.

Aliens land in South Africa and have no way home. Years later after living in a slum and wearing out their welcome the "Non-Humans" are being moved to a new tent city overseen by Multi-National United (MNU). The movie follows an MNU employee tasked with leading the relocation and his relationship with one of the alien leaders. When i first saw the comercals for district 9 i thought it looked like just another stupid movie that people would only think was good because of the action. In other words I thoght the plot would suck, but boy was I wrong the whole thing looked like a real documentary and it managed to involve aliens and not be completly cheesey and that can be a tough thing to do. And there was still great action they had the perfect amount of it. And just to think the only reason I saw it was because my friends were talking about it non stop well I thank them because District 9 has a shot at movie of the year it is already no dought the best Sci-Fi movie ever even above star wars. And this is last thing im going to say because if I say anymore I might give something away, Disrict 9 is so much diffrent they you would think from the comercals not that they were bad. In conclusion Movie Mike gives District 9 a 3.5.

"REC" turns on a young TV reporter and her cameraman who cover the night shift at the local fire station. Receiving a call from an old lady trapped in her house, they reach her building to hear horrifying screams -- which begin a long nightmare and a uniquely dramatic TV report.
What it lacks in character development, it more than makes up for in fast paced thrills, shocks and genuine tension. The setting and shaky cam create a claustrophobic atmosphere, held together well by naturalistic performances from the cast.
